Weekly Challenge #1

Hello!
A big Diva welcome to all my Zentangly friends!  Welcome to the very first weekly challenge.  I can't tell you how excited i am to see how this will all pan out....but i have high hopes! :D

Can you believe that it's already the week before Christmas?  Five more days!

With all the craziness of my life the past few months, i can hardly believe that it's already here.  With the birth of my second son and his 40 day stay at the hospital, it's been a crazy hectic whirl wind - and then there was some added family drama, add to that a 2 1/2 year old who is just a ball of energy.

I love Christmas, i love decorating and getting out the Christmas music and going to parties and taking in Handle's Messiah - and here i am, the week of Christmas with my tree just barely up, Christmas baking somewhat done and mostly eaten (yipes), i had to make the executive decision to NOT send out Christmas cards this year, i have a closet full of presents that are yet to be wrapped and gifts still to be purchased and/or made.

What i really need right now is to simplify.

That's why the very first weekly challenge in this game is:

simplicity

Here's my tile.

How does this word speak to you, and how do you translate it into Zentangle®? Do you simplify your string? Simplify your pattern? Your shading?

If you have a blog, add the URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun!

If you don't have a blog but still want to participate, you can email your tile to me and i will post it here.   (See the contact tab above for my email address)

Good Luck everyone! Happy Tangling!

Laura

  10. Hi Laura...again.

I had some problems with my last 'LC' upload. Are you able to delete No. 6. I've resubmitted my piece at No. 7 'Melissa'.

    Sorry!

  12. With an addiction this good I can't pass by and not join in! Great idea!

  13. I'm off to start right away! This is a really good idea. I find it hard to keep things simple. I always have to embellish something within an inch of its life!!
This will be good ...can't wait to see what I do with this- or NOT do in my case!

  14. This is a real challenge for me. Simplicity is NOT my middle name (I'm with Judy, above). Thanks! Looking forward to the next one.

  16. Yay, Laura, for inspiring us all to join in weekly challenge fun with you. What an enthusiastic community to be a part of! Doing this tile was simply the best fun I had all day. (And it's already one of my all time faves!) I can't decide now if I eventually want to go back to it with the pencil and shade it (which is why I haven't put my chop on it yet). I'll decide tomorrow... or next year. It really doesn't matter - I'll know what to do when I'm ready to know. (How very Zen!) Namaste, Kit

  22. Hey Laura... there's a wonderful 'side effect' of this challenge - I'm discovering the Blog pages of all my favourite tanglers! Friends from Flickr and Facebook. So far I've subscribed to at least ten new blogs. How wonderful! It feels like there are tangle strings reaching out from your Weekly Challenge that are knitting us all together. Hugs and many, many thanks!! Kit

  32. I posted 1-4 in the same post...because I too just found this little corner of zen-arific heaven. In fact, I just found out about Zentangles this week! And haven't put my pen down yet.

Thank you for the inspiration, and just the medium that I need to get past the procrastinating protectionist in me.

  37. Hi, I just started with the weekly challenges, so I started at the beginning. First of all simplicity for me in the size. I normally make my drawings on at least A4-size paper. Now on a postcard. I simplified my pattern. And there it came... a spider, symbol for me of simply living as a human being, What is simplicity? 'Just', simply, living in a human body with human senses!
So very earthy. In daily live I'm very busy with spiritual matters! With both feet firmly remain on Earth! Spirituality means to me see the humanity in a larger perspective, and thus the reason of existence as a human being, just like that one (wo)man, to understand, so you can act purposefully. It remains aware of all human experiences, working in the garden with the hands in the Earth, nice walking with our dog, enjoying simple things that also agree not geared to productivity ... just enjoy!
Thank you Diva for this weekly challenge! I'll do more of them in the future, I'm sure...
