Weekly Challenge #6

First of all - a few house keeping items:

  • if you haven't seen the slideshow for Week #5 - you can see it here
  • Please grab the button for the Weekly Challenge (on the right sidebar) to display on your blogs!
  • and i want to say a very extra special big heart felt thank you to everyone who donated funds last week.  I continue to be amazed by the generosity of spirit of this wonderful community.  HUGS!

Last week's Orbs were amazing. And so very soothing to look at as we recovered from the previous week at our house. My husband really enjoys looking at the slideshows every week as well - we both are constantly impressed by the pieces you are creating.

I also am really loving how we are all learning from each other, and how we are being INSPIRED by each other... not only in our Zentangles but how we are coming together as a group. That's inspiring - don'tchya think?

After Artoo's procedure last week, we had a couple of rough days and even rougher nights, but things seem to be getting back to what we call normal around here. Thankfully.

The other day, while having a bit of a rest on the couch with the baby - i happened to notice a sharpie on the table next to me, and started tangling a bit on the back of one of Artoo's casts. it didn't take me 5 seconds before i knew where this would take me... and i thought - in celebration of these being the very last casts in the club feet treatment, i would give my little man some fancy digs.

So, i tangled around my sleeping babe - and let me tell you that zentangling on plaster is beautiful - the stark white of the plaster is just gorgeous. plus, the baby's pretty effin' cute (if i do say so myself.)
Tangly Casts

Because they cut his achilles tendons, i wrote "Love" over both spots where the incisions were. Because he's healing those little club feet i wrote "Happiness" on the soles of both his little tootsies. And because they are his last casts, i wrote "These are My Last Casts".... so cute.

So now we're all caught up!
:)

This week, Rick and Maria sent out the Zentangle® Newsletter (you can subscribe to it here) and in this issue they introduced a New Tangle and the instructions.

I know that personally, it takes me a few tries with a new tangle before i feel comfortable throwing it into my tiles.

So, Challenge #6 is to use the new tangle IXORUS

Instructions via the Zentangle.com newsletter

Sometimes i need a push out of my comfort zone - i tend to use the same few tangles over and over again.

Using 'Ixorus', 'Ennies', 'Cubine', 'Striping' and a variation of 'Tink'

So lets all expand our tangle repertoire!  Get out there and get crackin'!

If you have a blog, add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here)

If you don't have a blog but still want to participate, you can email your tile to me and i will post it here. (See the contact tab above for my email address)

The deadline for each weekly challenge is Saturday night so that i can round everyone up by Sunday. What this means is that i will stop adding tiles to the slideshow on Sunday. You're still more than welcome to do the challenges and add your name to the linkey machine.

I'm also going to try to be more diligent with the linkey machine - by editing out the ones that don't work, the doubles, the links that lead to nowhere, the links that go just to blog home pages (this is why we need those site specific urls), and the spam. And there is some spam. :(

Have a great week everyone!

  1. Laura, Artoo's casts are too cute. Does he like them? I can't wait to get started on this challenge. Thanks for the ideas.

  2. Artoo, has the fanciest casts I have ever seen. He's so lucky to have a Mummy that will put such care and thought into his last casts. Off to tangle. I really like this challange. Thank you!

  3. You are going to keep those casts right? My cousin found the last casts she had for the same thing. Her mom had kept them. So we use tangles that we normally don't use this week?

  4. i guess that the challenge is to incorporate the NEW tangle, specifically.

  5. What an wondrous way to infuse little Artoo with an extra zing of love. The intent with which you decorated his casts will surely play a part in his healing. I haven't gotten a chance to play with this new tangle yet, so I'm excited to get on it!

  6. Great idea with the casts. I've started doing the challenge but have only done the first 3 so didn't link to my blog. Hopefully I'll catch up this week. Thank you for supplying the incentive.

  7. WOW!! I really didn't expect to be the first one this week, but I really had a hard time stopping once I started this time.. I thank you for your own insight into life itself and for the challenges each week to keep our own brains thinking. I can't wait to see what everyone else does this week.

  8. I've been interested in the research done in Japan where various words are put on containers of water, the water is frozen, and the ice crystals are compared. I'm certain that writing positive ideas (and art!) on Artoo's casts will positively affect the healing of his legs.

  9. @Margaret - yeah, i know what you mean. I remember seeing the research of Dr. Emoto when i watched "What the Bleep do We Know?" which is what inspired me to write Love and Happiness on Artoo's casts.

  18. Hurrah for the last casts! Tons of well wishes for little Artoo and hurrah for mommy tangling his casts - too cool! I have no doubt you and your family are pretty amazing people. Thanks again for organizing this challenge - off to Ixorus!!!

  19. Thanks for this challenge! I gave it a try yesterday. Not the best ZT ever, but I will go deeper into this pattern, retrying it.

The casts are great! I immediately thought of 'healing signs' you can draw onto the skin to help the body to recover.
Splendid idea to include words as well as their vibes will support healing too.

It sure is a rough way to start his life, but he will be glad that you were a brave mom and did the right thing. You are both very brave!

  33. This challenge was harder than I thought it would be, or maybe my muse was missing in action... I do love Artoo's casts!

  34. Inspired by your own ZIA on Artoo's casts - I did a coffee mug (just like Lone Creature, aka Melissa!). We both started them yesterday at our Tuesday Tanglers group. I love it so much that I've gone ahead and posted the the photographs I took yesterday straight away, tonight. Tomorrow I'll photograph the finished mug (shading done now). It's pretty dramatically different with the shading added (of course), but it's too dark to photograph it tonight. Unfortunately, I've got a jam packed week, so (just in case) I wanted to get my blog post pictures up now (strike while the iron is hot, so to speak). Hopefully, I'll be posting the finished mug with shading tomorrow if I can find some spare blogging time in there somewhere. Otherwise - enjoy! And also - a "Hey there!" to you and your lovely family from me - sending healing vibes Artoo's way. Mending, weaving, repairing, growing good and true. *hug* xoxo

  35. Thanks again for an inspiring challenge. If even a few of the loving vibes surrounding these comments reach little Artoo, he will be healed in a snap!
All this week's tangles seem to spiral together into a caring whole.

  36. I just saw the 6th Weekly Challange and already have my design planned which I will have done tonight after work and have posted no later than tomorrow. That is such a cute tangle design that Maria from Zentangle.com came up with.
Laura, sorry for you cute bundle of joy having to have both casts on his cute little legs. Good they are able to do that medical procedure on your baby while he's still an infant. By the time he's a year old, he'll be fine and keep up with with big brother. You got some cute little boys, Laura!

My Mom told me when I was born they had to break both my legs to straiten them out. My feet pointed sideways like you see on cartoons charactors. I was stuck wearing leg braces and goofy clunky white shoes, but by the time I was old enough to start nursery school, I was fine. I was able to run as fast as everybody in my family. Those doctors done a great job on me!

I like the way you decorated your baby's casts. What type of pen you used that draws on plastering? Did you use the Sharpie Paint pens?

  37. I tried again. We will see if I have ti correct now. Thanks.

  41. Hi there again! Since my posting I've had many requests for where to buy travel coffee mugs (with inserts for tangling on) State side. If you Google search 'coffee mug photo insert' - you'll find many different versions. I've also just put a comment up on my post for this week that has quite a few good links in it for where you can get them. If you do buy in bulk - just tangle one, show it around, and you'll have more buyers than mugs! Also - quick tip - if you're making them for gifts (for people who don't hang out together) you could do just one insert and photocopy it for use in multiple mugs. grin

  42. Okay... my second post: 'Shady Mug Shot', is up. I love all the entries so far. The variation - as we get more and more participants - is brilliant!

  61. Wow, love what you did with the casts. And I kind of like how my Ixorus turned into a jellyfish.

  62. I think those casts are just too cute! I know this was a while ago, do you still have them? I'm plugging away on the challenges, it's nice to have so many options for how to do things, each challenge opens up the doors of creativity and keeps the process exciting!!

    1. i don't have them anymore, but i took lots of pictures. The process to take casts off of tiny people is to get them wet and then untangle them. This way they don't have to use the cast saw.
