Weekly Challenge #308

Happy Monday all!

So last week Chewie had a tummy bug which put him out of commission for the whole weekend... and early Tuesday morning i woke up feeling a bit off... and then i spent the rest of the night sick.  It was awful!  I didn't want to wake up the fam so i decided to sleep downstairs on the couch next to the bathroom.  It was a very rough night for me.

Around 5:30 B-rad came downstairs to find me huddled in the fetal position - so sick.  I haven't had a stomach bug in over 10 years, so it was probably my time.  So B-rad went about the task of getting the boys up for school and getting them dressed, and fed, and their lunches made and their backpacks packed, and himself readied and fed.  It was no small feat, he was slightly out of his element, but he was given no warning and therefore no prep.  He did a really great job though.  To be fair, if i woke up one morning and discovered that i had to do his job without any warning, i'm not so sure how great i'd be.

So i spent the entire day on the couch drifting in and out of sleep, and by bedtime i was able to eat a few saltine crackers and keep them down.

the next day i was feeling so much better.  Like a new person.  it was insane.

Which was really great because B-rad and I had tickets to see Mother Mother that night and i really wanted to go.  SO i took it easy all morning after the kids were in school, and drank bottled water at the concert and felt great.  And seriously, the concert was so so so good.  They are a solid live band with excellent arrangements and the sound is so awesome!!

On Thursday Artoo lost his front tooth and so we were trying to teach him how to sing All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth - but he was havin' none of that because it's not Christmas time.

But it WAS Saint Patrick's Day! So they let me take their pictures and put the Leprechaun filters on them in Snapchat

By the weekend with the warm temperatures our backyard looked like this:

So flooded.  Behold: Lake Harmzway

Apparently the drainage down the catwalk is blocked so everyone's backyards look the same.

OH! AND i got to see Beauty and the Beast this weekend for a friend's birthday - and it did not disappoint.  It made my 12 year old heart so happy.

Weekly Challenge #308: "MacNCheese"
So this week on the zentangle blog Rick and Maria wrote about comfort tangles and going back to the basics.  It really hit home with me because i often feel a lot of pressure to come up with something exciting and NEW each week.... instead of remembering the reason i started this blog in the first place - which was as a place of inspiration and a place of motivation.

There are eleventy-billion named tangles and named variations of tangles out there.  And there are more and more being posted each day.  It's so hard to keep up, and sometimes the more complex they are the more stressful they become because there's more opportunities for"doing it wrong".

Sometimes you just want to relax and let your pen dance across the page, and do what flows naturally from you.

Maria writes:Where is it written that we must constantly strive for more complex and focused tangles? There is something to be said for tried and true, simple and familiar . . . like "mac & cheese" vs. the latest recipe on a food blog

So i thought a great challenge would be to use your MacNCheese (or Kraft Dinner as we call it in Canada) tangles.  No pressure! Enjoy the process, love each moment.  Do the ones that feel great.

My Go to MacNCheese tangles are generally Tripoli or Flux... But as i was getting myself centered to create my tile, i realized there's an unsung hero in my tangle practice.  a tangle that often finds its way onto my tiles - and that's Betweed.

So here's my current MacNCheese tangle Betweed.  I did it as a monotangle on a tan tile, because i had a tan tile next to me, and because i liked how this looked.   You do not have to make it a monotangle, and you don't have to use a tan tile!  Unless you want to and that feels good to you.

What are your go-to tangles?  Looking forward to seeing the results!

have a great week!

And if you're on the Zentangle Mosaic App or Instagram - i'm @iamthediva - come on by and follow me, and i'm going to be using hashtags on the app for each of my weekly challenges. So if you're game - use the hashtag #DC308(Diva Challenge #308) for your tile this week! You can also search in the app for people's contributions to the challenge by clicking on the hashtag from inside the app, or using the search function.

If you have a blog or host your images on line (like on Flickr or Picassa or Pinterest), add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here) Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)

If you love the challenge as much as i do, please consider leaving a tip (tip jar in the side bar).  I write this blog for free and have no plans to make it a paid for service in the future.  Buy me a cup of coffee, or a new Micron pen!! Click the tip jar on the side for a monthly tip, but if you just wanna throw a few bucks my way THIS LINK will give you a one time option.    A very big thank you to those who have kept me in hot cups of joe. ;)

  4. I'm glad you are well onthe way to recovery. The trouble is, when it hits, it hits hard, so you take care of yourself, Grownups don't bounce back like kids do. As for the Challenge, I really enjoyed just doing an old favourite for the fun of it. Thanks for reminding us that fancy stuff isn't always best.

  5. Thank you Laura for this challenge. I understand the pressure feeling too... always bigger, always better, always comparing. And the strange thing is that my most beautiful Zentangles are the ones that started with no plan, simple tangles and no pre-example to compare. Just let the pen flow. Trust intuition, expect intuition, accept intuition and follow it up 🌞 Have a great week! Love from Belgium

  7. Glad you felt well enough to attend the concert. This was my first Tangle on an actual Artist Tile, I've resisted paying $8 for 20 tiles but I finally didn't need anything else when I went into Michael's with my 50% off coupon, sure was a lot easier to do paradox!

  8. This week of all weeks I really appreciated the simpler is better approach. It meant, for starters, that something actually got DONE! Glad you and the boys are on the road to happy; wellness is often under-rated until it's gone missing. Cheryl

  13. Three cheers for making it through and getting to the concert in a state fit to enjoy it! Interesting the optical effect on your tile, greenish tinge from the black pen, reddish from the brown.
