from the Zentangle Website:
Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity. Zentangle provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well being. Zentangle is enjoyed by a wide range of skills and ages and is used in many fields of interest.
I got hooked on zentangling just before Christmas of 2009, and have done a Zentangle almost every day since.
After struggling with anxiety and depression - a friend of mine sent me the link to the zentangle website. I was instantly attracted to it, because the repeating patterns and intricate line work seemed to have been lifted off the pages of my own doodles.
The idea of drawing or creating with a purpose, with intent, really appealed to me - and within the course of the next couple of days, i devoured everything i could find that was remotely related to zentangling. I signed up for the free eNewsletter and read all the back issues, i read all the back posts of some great zentangling blogs, I purchased the start up kit, and started zentangling on my own in my own sketch book.
Since i began this journey into zen, i really began to notice a decline in my anxiety attacks, and my over all mental health seemed to be stabilizing.
My one and only Resolution when i turned 30 was to Live More Creatively in whatever path that takes me. Zentangling has helped me in that.
I remember thinking that I would love to be able to teach this skill to other people! The VERY next day an eNewsletter went out announcing the dates for the next Certification course. And it was the week after my 30th birthday!!
I decided to take advantage of this coincidence - and call it an early birthday present. This was life giving me a nudge. much needed. So, i held my breath, signed up for the course...
I made the journey to New England and spent a few wonderful days with amazing people before coming home ready to teach.
Even though i love teaching, something special happened when i started challenging other Zentangle enthusiasts to try new things... the weekly challenge was born and with that a vibrant and giving community of like minded creative souls who share their imagination and inventiveness in a amazing way. I couldn't be more thrilled with the success of this blog, and it's through my readers that i have found this success. Thank you!
I am based in Saskatoon, SK - that's in Canada, right smack dab in the middle.
